There is news that there is an estimate of a 10 percent drop in acreage in the upcoming sowing season as farmers may shift to more profitable crop such as cotton in some growing areas. Sowing progress will decide the course of guar futures.

Despite an early beginning, Indian monsoon may progress slowly during the June-September period, a senior weather official said. Monsoon failed to progress further for last couple of days and it may affect the sowing.

Rajasthan's guar acreage is likely to fall 9.74 percent in 2009/10 crop year. Guar acreage is seen at 2.5 million hectares this year down from 2.77 million hectares last year. Rajasthan accounts for 70 percent of country's guar output.
