Pharmacia Healthcare (PHARMACIAH) has been engaged in the manufacture of pharmaceutical products, bulk drugs and chemicals. It was incorporated as a private limited company on Mar. 28, 1946, and converted into a public limited company on Nov. 05, 1981. Earlier known as Abbott Laboratories (India), it was christened Pharmacia Healthcare with effect from Aug. 20, 2002 after Pharmacia Corp, US, acquired majority stake in Abbott Laboratories (India) in January 2002 following an agreement between Abbott Laboratories, USA, and Abbott International, USA.
With manufacturing facilities in Mumbai, key brands produced by the company include Selsun, Claribid, Erythrocin, and Rashfree. It has been merged with Pfizer effective Dec. 01, 2003 under an approved scheme of amalgamation. Products have now been redeployed through the appropriate marketing arms of Pfizer. PediaSure, a nutritional drink has already been marketed in Karnataka.
