Padmalaya Telefilms (PADMATELE) is an integrated media company operating in the segment of television software, integrated communication group, films and animation. It was incorporated in 1991 and went public in 2000. Zee Entertainment Enterprises (ZEE) acquired a majority stake in the company in June 2002. A fully-integrated media and entertainment company, ZEE offers television content through Zee TV, Zee Cinema, Zee Music, Zee Cafe, Zee Studio and Zee Trendz; reaches out to more than 500 million viewers in more than 167 countries; launched Zee Entertainment Studios with two movie banners - Zee Motion Pictures for mainstream films and Zee Limelight for films targeted at niche audiences; and is one of the most diversified premium education company with multiple divisions Kidzee High, Kidzee, Kidz Care, Iectec, Zima, Zica, Zed Ca And E-Learning. All these various divisions form part of Subhash Chandra`s Essel group, a major player in theatrical exhibition (E-city and Fun), television content and distribution (Zee Network), cable distribution (WWIL), direct-to-home (Dish Network) and has strong international operations.
Production and distribution of Hindi and regional movies, telefilms, television software production and animation software are the main activities of the company. It has two mega serials to its credit, namely, Jai Veer Hanuman and Buddha, which have been translated into various languages. It has consolidated its position as a quality television content provider and has together with Film Club USA and Anglo-American Film Distribution (AAFD) jointly produced and marketed a 200-part animation series based on popular folklore Jataka Tales.
Padmalaya-Zica, a division of the company, is the animation academy with institutes in Mumbai, Hyderabad and Kolkota. The animation academy in Mumbai at Esselworld offers a two-year course in 2D and 3D animation and special effects. The company has an integrated CineTV media production center in Hyderabad. On signing a pact with Italian animation house Mondo TV, the company produced four animated TV series and two feature-length films. It also got temporary licensing in India for 1,000 episodes from Mondo TV`s library, a 10-year arrangement valued at $5 million. Apple and the company jointly own a digital media center.
