Medi-Caps (MEDICAPQ) is a manufacturer of empty hard gelatin capsule shells. It was incorporated as a private limited company on Aug. 06, 1983 and converted into a public limited company on Mar. 03, 1986. The company is part of the Medi-Cap group, which has business activities in education, industrial packaging and related products, finance, and real estate, besides the manufacture of hard gelatin capsule shells. Other group companies include Medi-Caps Institute of Technology and Management, Medi-Caps Finance, International Institute of Foreign Trade and Research, Medpak India, Trapti Investments, Mittal Enterprises, and Akshit Finance.
The ISO 9001:2000 certified company manufactures more than a thousand shades of hard gelatin capsule shells in six sizes, halal gelatin capsules, preservative-free capsules, and capsules free from sodium lauryl sulfate. These are widely used in the packaging of drugs, vitamins, antibiotics and cosmetics. It has pioneered many advanced features in product development such as metallic colored capsules, Python printing and Li-Fill caps. The WHO GMP certified manufacturing unit is located in the Dhar district of Madhya Pradesh with capacity to manufacture single-lock, self-lock and easy-fit capsules printing using axial and spin printing options. As part of modernization, two machines have been converted into high speed as per the latest design in FY07. This has increased output by 30% and reduced manpower and power costs.
In February 2008, the company entered into a joint venture agreement with Mission Pharmaceuticals for setting up a plant at the Pithampur special economic zone in the Dhar district for the manufacture of soft gelatin capsules at a total proposed investment of Rs 200 million, out of which it has already contributed Rs 5.5 million.

Financials
Medi-Caps registered a steep drop of 59.34% in net profits of Rs 10.84 million for the quarter ended June 2008 from a profit of Rs 26.66 million for the quarter ended June 2007.
Net sales rose 8.54% to Rs 50.23 million for the quarter ended June 2008 from Rs 46.28 million for the quarter ended June 2007. Total income dipped 25.21% to Rs 50.29 million from Rs 67.24 million for the quarter ended June 2007.
The earnings per share (EPS) of the company stood at Rs 3.48 for the quarter ended June 2008.
