Bayer CropScience (BAYER), formerly Bayer India, operates in the areas of crop protection, seeds biotechnology and non-agricultural pest control. Incorporated in 1958, the company was converted into a public limited company on Dec. 28, 1996. The company is the Indian subsidiary of Bayer Germany (a diversified international chemical and healthcare company). The chairman of the company is Vijay Mallya and Stephan Gerlich is the vice chairman and managing director.
The company develops and markets fungicides, insecticides, herbicides, and seed treatment products. The company offers solutions for control of pests and weeds to professional users and consumers. It uses plant biotechnology and breeding to offer solutions for agriculture, nutrition, health and biomaterials. The company has production facilities in Thane, Himatnagar and Ankleshwar.
Bayer CropScience is integrating its seed business with the existing crop protection business. The Proagro group, a part of the Bayer group, currently carries out the seed business and the company would seek necessary approvals for the integration. Given Bayer`s range of products, the company has managed to stay in the forefront of the Indian crop protection industry. Bayer entered into supply agreements with leading pest control companies with a view to retain and consolidate its leadership position. Bayer plans to introduce 10 further substances by 2011. It also desires to expand its environmental science, seed treatment and plant biotechnology franchises.

Bayer CropScience registered a 180.89% growth in net profit to Rs 258.7 million for the quarter ended June 2007 from a profit of Rs 92.1 million for the quarter ended June 2006.
Net sales increased 2.22 times to Rs 3,244.5 million for the quarter ended June 2007 from Rs 1,461.1 million for the quarter ended June 2006.
Total income rose 111.08% to Rs 3,318.4 million for the quarter ended June 2007 from Rs 1,572.1 million for the quarter ended June 2006.
The earnings per share (EPS) of the company stood at Rs 6.55 for the quarter ended June 2007.
