Formerly known as Indo Matsushita Carbon Company, Panasonic Carbon India was incorporated in 1982. The company is promoted in technical and financial collaboration with Matsushita Electrical Industries, Japan. Panasonic Carbon is engaged in the manufacturing of carbon rods used in dry cells.

Manufacturing plants of the company are located at Tada in Andhra Pradesh. Panasonic Carbon supplies carbon rods to almost all major battery producers such as Indo National, Lakhanpal National and Eveready Industries.

Financials
The company reported a 13.15% growth in net profits at Rs 14.54 million for the quarter ended September 2006 as against Rs 12.85 million during the corresponding quarter in the previous year. Sales for this period increased by 8.97% to Rs 87.02 million from Rs 79.86 million.

Panasonic Carbon reported a 10.18% decline in sales at Rs 335.9 million for the year ended March 2006, as against Rs 373.97 million for year ended March 2005. Net profit for this period also declined by 13.05% to Rs 53.18 million, as against Rs 61.16 million. The EPS for FY06 stood at Rs 11.08.

Future Plans
In the future, the company wants to eliminate hazardous waste and emission generation for pollution control. It wants to achieve optimum level of production cost through energy saving methods and process time reduction.
