Chennai based Pentamedia Graphics (PENSOFEX), formerly known as Pentafour Software & Exports entered the business of software development and training in 1986. The company has grown rapidly since it went public in 1991. In December 2001, the company decided to execute animation and special effects for various entertainment streams like media entertainment, studio entertainment, web entertainment and themed entertainment. Since then, it has engaged in animation, multimedia solutions and graphics business and became one of the biggest multimedia companies in India. It also provides enterprise as well as open source multimedia solution. Its principal activity involves computer software for multimedia and web-casting services.
Pentamedia has set several milestones in the past. It has created animated feature films like The Legend of Buddha, a 2D film which had qualified for contention at the Oscar Awards 2005 in the best animation film category along with other 10 animated films from across the world. It has worked for the Warner Bros film, The King and I. It has also produced 3D animated films like Pandavas-The Five Warriors, Alibaba, Sinbad-Beyond the Veil of Mist and Son of Aladdin. Alibaba had qualified for contention at the Oscar Awards in 2002.
The company`s services include pre-production, post-production, motion capture division, 2D and 3D animation, visual effects, film scanning, editing-avid, compact disc services. It also offers services such as CD ROM replication, sales and other applications related to CDs (both video and audio). The business focus has been in providing services to the IT industry. In fact 91% of the sales has been from replicating CD-ROMs.
The multimedia software which is developed by the company is used to create animations and special effects for theaters, home videos, television and personal computers. The company with its operations in the United States of America, Singapore, Mauritius, Malaysia and the Philippines serves segments in the entertainment industries namely studio entertainment, media entertainment, web entertainment, themed entertainment and sports entertainment.
It also develops interactive CD titles on fairy tales, computer-based tutorials and corporate presentations.
Financials
Pentamedia Graphics registered a steep drop of 90% in net profit at Rs 0.3 million for the quarter ended June 2007 from a profit of Rs 3 million for the quarter ended June 2006.
Net sales declined 70.39% to Rs 13 million for the quarter ended June 2007 from Rs 43.9 million for the quarter ended June 2006.
Total income dipped 68.22% to Rs 14.3 million from Rs 45 million for the quarter ended June 2006.
