Saint-Gobain Sekurit India formerly known as Saint-Gobain India (SSGIL) was incorporated in 1973 as a private sector company under the name Maharashtra Safety Glass Works. It was promoted by A C Gulati and B R Dougall. Presently its holding company Sekurit Saint - Gobain, France holds 85.77% stake in equity capital of the company. SSGIL went public in 1987 and came out with its maiden issue in October 1988. Saint Gobain is based at Pune, India.
Saint-Gobain Sekurit manufactures and supplies automotive glazing and modular components for global vehicle manufacturer transportation segment and the replacement market. The company has its presence in 22 countries, with 50% market share in the European market and 23% worldwide, and a rapidly growing presence in Asia. It supplies glass under the Atultuf brand name to a reputed clientele including Telco, Premier Automobiles, Hindustan Motors, Ashok Leyland, Bajaj Tempo, Bajaj Auto, etc. The company diversified by setting up a vegetable oil solvent extraction plant employing the most modern technology.
Currently, Saint-Gobaon Sekruit has three modern manufacturing facilities in Pune and Chennai to produce laminated and tempered glazing. It has a current capacity to produce 300,000 car sets annually and caters to all segments of the Indian automotive market. In an industry driven by volumes the company is introducing its second glass plant in Chennai. It has a market share with the 2nd position in the market second only to Asahi glass.

Saint-Gobain Sekurit India disclosed that loss for the quarter ended June 2007 has narrowed.Net Sales declined 20.88% to Rs 146.13 million for the quarter ended June 2007 from Rs 184.70 million for the quarter ended June 2006.Total income dipped 20.69% to Rs 146.8 million, from Rs 185.1 million for the quarter ended June 2006.The earnings per share (EPS), of the company stood at Rs 0.02 in the quarter ended June 2007 .
