Piramyd Retail is part of the Piramal Group, which has presence in diverse sectors spanning Pharmaceuticals, Textiles, Real Estate, Engineering, Family Entertainment and Retail with manufacturing operations in 19 locations across five states and employing over 18,000 people.

The promoters launched the apparel business in 1999 under Piramyd Retail and Merchandising Pvt. Ltd. (PRMPL) while its food; home and personal care businesses (FHPC) were housed under Crossroads Shoppertainment Pvt. Ltd. (CSPL). As the apparel and food businesses individually reached a critical mass the management merged the two companies into Piramyd Retail Ltd. due to distant synergies in two businesses in March 2005. It currently has 12 stores spread across 4 cities occupying over 2,10,000 Sq ft of retail space.

Recent Developments
Piramyd Retail entered the capital market on November 10, 2005 with an initial public offering of 9 crore equity shares of Rs10 each for cash, at a premium. The company made its debut on BSE at Rs 146 and on NSE at Rs 140. The issue was subscribed 11.62 times, as per the NSE website.

Future Plans
Piramyd Retail is planning to expand its existing chain of Piramyd Mega stores and TruMart supermarkets in a big way. It has also plans to upgrade its information technology infrastructure. It has to partly finance the Ahmedabad megastore and the three TruMart stores, recently opened at Thane, Pune and Mumbai. It is planning to open 17 megastores and 69 TruMart stores by 2008.
