At 09.07 hrs IST, the Nifty opened below 5000 mark in the opening bell. The benchmark index, Sensex too shed 200 points from its previous day's close. Heavy selling was seen in metals, banks realty and capital goods. All BSE sectoral indices were trading in red.

The Sensex was down 207.52 points or 1.23% at 16668.24, and the Nifty down 66.90 points or 1.32% at 4999.30. About 1290 shares advanced, 1547 shares declined, and 450 shares were unchanged.

In the largecap space, ICICI Bank was the top loser in Nifty with more than 3.5% loss. Sterlite Industries, Unitech, Cairn India and Tata Motors were down 2-3%. Reliance Power and BPCL were only 2 stocks in Nifty trading in green.
