Nifty slips in red; IDEA, BPCL, Tata Power down

MUMBAI: Selling activity in the last half an hour pulled down benchmarks in the negative territory. FMCG and capital goods were in the red while profit booking intensified in realty, metals and PSU stocks space.

At 12:45 pm, National Stock Exchange’s Nifty was at 4837.55, down 15.55 points or 0.32 per cent. The index touched an intra-day low of 4835.90 and high of 4929.90.

Bombay Stock Exchange’s Sensex was at 16233.56, down 56.26 points or 0.35 per cent. The 30-share index hit a low of 16228.20 and high of 16524.69 in trade so far.

Broader markets were little changed. BSE Midcap Index was up 0.01 per cent and BSE Smallcap Index edged 0.01 per cent lower.

Amongst the sectoral indices, BSE FMCG Index was down 1.37 per cent and BSE Capital Goods Index declined 0.90 per cent. BSE Realty Index was up 1.27 per cent, BSE PSU Index moved 0.83 per cent higher and BSE Metal Index advanced 0.55 per cent higher.

IDEA (-3.57%), BPCL (-3.34%), Tata Power (-2.69%), ITC (-2.62%) and L&T (-2.43%) were amongst the top Nifty losers.

HCL Tech (5.45%), Siemens (2.84%), SAIL (2.04%), Axis Bank (1.94%) and Ranbaxy Laboratories (1.70%) resisted the decline.

Market breadth turned negative on the BSE with 1673 declines and 1034 advances.
