Sensex volatile; realty, metals lend support

MUMBAI: Equities were witnessing a volatile session with a positive bias led by gains in realty and metals. Meanwhile, European markets were also in the green.

At 2:13 pm, Bombay Stock Exchange’s Sensex was at 16154.56, up 90.66 points or 0.56 per cent. The index touched an intra-day high of 16283.86 and low of 16075.19.

National Stock Exchange’s Nifty was at 4808.05, up 42.50 points or 0.89 per cent. The broader index slipped below 4800 to touch a low of 4764.85. It had touched a high of 4836.20 in trade so far.

BSE Midcap Index was up 2.12 per cent and BSE Smallcap Index moved 2 per cent higher.

Amongst the sectoral indices, BSE PSU Index surged 3.55 per cent, BSE Realty Index was up 2.77 per cent, BSE Metal Index moved 2.35 per cent higher and BSE Bankex gained 2.06 per cent. BSE FMCG Index was down 0.46 per cent.

Jaiprakash Associates (4.16%), Tata Steel (3.58%, State Bank of India (3.42%0, DLF (2.71%) and Sterlite Industrise (2.22%) were amongst the Sensex gainers.

Tata Power (-3.20%), Hindustan Unilever (-1.94%), Hero Honda (-1.27%), ITC (-1.19%), TCS (-0.63%) were amongst the losers.

Market breadth was positive on the BSE with 1921 advances and 725 declines.

European markets were also in choppy waters. FTSE 100 was up 0.08 per cent, CAC 40 gained 0.01 per cent and DAX inched 0.07 per cent up.
