Andhra Sugars (ANDHRASUGAR) was founded by the late Pendyala Sri Ramachandra Venkata Krishna Ranga Rao on August 11, 1947. It is a diversified company which is primarily engaged in the manufacture and sale of sugar, organic and inorganic chemicals.
ANDHRASUGAR produces sugar, acetic acid, industrial alcohols, sulphuric acid, super phosphates, chlorosulphonic acid, oleum, aspirin, carbon dioxide, alum, diffusers, equipments, unsymmetrical dimethyl hydrazine, cotton seeds etc. It is also involved in richburn and oil cakes processing, refinery, hydrogenation of oils, cattle and poultry feed, wind power, electricity etc.
Plants are located at Tanuku, Kovvur, Guntur, Taduvai, Saggonda and Bhimadole in Andhra Pradesh. The present 2,500 TCD capacity at Taduvai is to increase to 5,500 TCD and the 3,500 TCD capacity of Bhimadole plant will go up to 6,000 TCD. Andhra Sugars has integrated inorganic chemical complexes at Kovvur and Saggonda and produces oils and byproducts in Guntur. It generated 2.3 MW of electricity in Taduvai. Non-conventional wind power is generated at Ramagiri (2.35 MW) in Andhra Pradesh and Veeranam, Tamil Nadu (6.6 MW). ANDHRASUGAR has expanded capacity of the caustic soda plant at Saggonda by 350 TPD and installed a 300-TPD sulphuric acid plant in Saggonda.
ANDHRASUGAR`s subsidiaries include JOCIL, The Andhra Farm Chemicals Corporation and Hindustan Allied Chemicals.
Andhra Sugars bagged a contract from liquid propellant system centre (ISRO) to establish a plant for production and supply of liquid hydrogen. The company received the USFDA and EDQM (European Directorate for Quality Medicines) approval and exports of aspirin to US, Mexico, Taiwan, Australia, and other European countries.
The registered office is at Venkatarayapuram, West Godavari district, Tanuku, India.
Financials
The company announced a substantial drop in standalone net profit for the quarter ended December 2008. During the quarter, the profit of the company declined 78.84% to Rs 7.61 million from Rs 35.94 million in the same quarter previous year. Net sales for the quarter rose 18.92% to Rs 1,586.66 million, while total income for the quarter rose 6.53% to Rs 1,588.45 million, when compared with the prior year period. It posted earnings of Rs 0.28 a share during the quarter, registering 78.95% decline over previous year period.
