GTC Industries Limited (formerly Golden Tobacco Company), flagship of Dalmia Group, is a leading cigarette manufacturer in India. The company later diversified into petrochemicals, additives, paper, marine products, etc. The company has established Dalmia Resorts, and has co-promoted Gujarat Heavy Chemicals (GHCL) with GIIC to manufacture soda ash. It has forayed into the communications sector through DSS Mobile Communications, a joint sector company.
GTC, beside having two cigarette units in Baroda and Mumbai, also gets its brands manufactured by other companies like Kanpur Cigarette, Deccan Tobacco Processors, Tamilnadu Tobacco, Chinar Cigarette and M P Tobacco, either on job work or under a royalty-cum-technical know-how agreement. Its main brands are Panama, Flair, Chancellor, Esquire, and Legend, CHL (Chancellor Harward Luxury). The company also launched Ms Special Filter, a cigarette for women.
The subsidiaries of the company, GTC Investment and Finance, Panama Investment & Finance, Olive Investment & Finance and Ranigandha Investment & Finance were merged with GTC Global, also a subsidiary of the company in 2005. GTC Global functions as the export arm for cigarettes and tobacco, agro-based products, medical equipment and hosiery. However, GTC has 2 subsidiaries, namely, Golden Investment (Sikkim) and Western Express Industries.
Financials
G T C Industries registered a 358.26% growth in net profit to Rs 400.43 million for the quarter ended March 2007 from a profit of Rs 87.38 million for the quarter ended March 2006.
Net sales for the quarter rose 15.10% to Rs 576.56 million for the quarter ended March 2007 from Rs 500.90 million for the quarter ended March 2006.
Total income rose 12.32% to Rs 580.27 million for the quarter ended March 2007 from Rs 516.63 million for the quarter ended March 2006.
The earnings per share (EPS) of the company stood at Rs 23.81 in the quarter ended March 2007.
