HBL NIFE Power Systems Limited (Formerly known as Sab Nife Power Systems)
is a result of the merger of Hyderabad Batteries (HBL) and SAB Nife Power Systems.The two companies which were under the same management, were merged when foreign % of equity investment in SAB NIFE became too small to justify separate legal entities. Presently it has overseas offices at China, Malaysia and UK. It has an overall factory space of over 80000 sq. ft.

The company diversified into manufacturing uninterrupted power systems which was financed by a public issue in Feb.\'92. Later it also started Manufacturing storage batteries to include sealed lead acid (SLA) batteries. The Company set up 100% EOU for exporting Nickel Cadmium batteries and another for Lead Acid Products.

The company operates in three broad sectors of the economy. The sectoral contribution to sales is as follows: core sector (telecom, oil & gas, power, aviation etc.) 61%, railways 16% and defence 8%, as of March 2005. Exports contribute to 15% of sales. HBL manufactures batteries with Nickel Cadmium ,Silver Zinc, Valve Regulated Lead Acid technologies. HBL develops the technology in India (including process, equipment and materials) to reduce capital costs and exports the products.

HBL Rail offers Integrated Power Supplies for railway stations and does turnkey signaling works contracts including design, installation and commissioning. HBL Microwave is focused on defence electronics. Electronic Proximity & Time and Mechanical artillery fuzes, radio frequency hybrid micro circuits, thermal Imagers and night vision devices, tactical radios, radio relays, secure communications and airborne electronic warfare equipment.

HBL is currently operating at more than 75 per cent utilisation in the nickel cadmium battery segment and over 90 per cent utilisation in lead batteries.

Future Plans
It has drawn up an expansion programme to double its capacities in nickel cadmium to 48 million AH, from 24 million AH, and in lead batteries to 105 million AH, from 55 million AH.
