Revathi - CP Equipment (REL) REL operates in the industrial technique segment and is engaged in the manufacture and sale of blast hole drilling rigs for use in open cast mines and water well drills for use of bore well drilling. The blast hole and water well rigs are used primarily in the mining sector. Another area of usage is in thermal power sector. The company's single largest customer in India is Coal India Ltd.
In FY99, the company's overall performance was good with a 33% jump in sales. While domestic sales went up by 15%, export sales grew by over 300% to Rs. 133.22 mn in FY99. This was mainly due to improving overseas market conditions and the new water well drill package, developed for export.
Chicago Penumatic tool company, USA and Chicago Penumatic India hold 30% and 10% of the equity capital of REL respectively. Chicago Penumatic forms part of the Atlas Copco group of companies, Sweden. Atlas Copco is engaged in three key business areas i.e. industrial technique, construction and mining technique and compressor technique.
Future Plans
The company plans to continue its focus on exports and develop new domestic markets.
