Reliance Capital (RELCAPITAL) is a non-banking financial company (NBFC) incorporated as a public limited company in 1986. In terms of net worth, RELCAPITAL ranks among the top three companies in the private financial services and banking sector in the country. RELCAPITAL primarily focuses on funding projects in the infrastructure sector along with leasing, investment in infrastructure sector and insurance, and supports the growth of its subsidiary companies. Its subsidiary companies include Reliance Mutual Fund (RMF) of Reliance Capital Asset Management, Reliance Capital Trustee Company, Reliance General Insurance Company and Reliance Life Insurance Company.
After the demerger of Reliance Industries, Reliance Capital Ventures is to be amalgamated with Reliance Capital which in turn will be under the umbrella of Anil Ambani owned Anil Dhirubhai Ambani Group (ADAG) as a part of the Reliance group. Reliance Land and Reliance Capital own 21,855,000 shares of Adlabs Films aggregating to 54.91% of the total paid up capital of the company.
In April 2007, the company launched Reliance Money primarily engaged in stock broking and investment products.
Financials
The company disclosed a sharp drop in standalone net profit for the quarter ended December 2008. During the quarter, the profit of the company declined 15.38% to Rs 1,144.40 million from Rs 1,352.40 million in the same quarter previous year. Net sales for the quarter jumped 78.34% to Rs 6,643.40 million, while total income for the quarter jumped 78.68% to Rs 6,708.60 million, when compared with the prior year period. It posted earnings of Rs 4.66 a share during the quarter, registering 17.96% decline over previous year period.
