United Phosphorus (UNITEDPHOS), incorporated as Vishwanath Commercials in 1985, went public in 1985. R.D. Shroff (along with his family and investment companies) acquired a majority stake in erstwhile Viswanath Commercials in 1994 and changed its name to Search Chem Industries. As a result of reorganization within the group, United Phosphorus acquired 75% equity in Search Chem in 1995 and UNITEDPHOS acquired further shares in 1995 and became the promoter of the company.
UNITEDPHOS manufactures chlorine and phosphorous-based industrial chemicals and specialty chemicals like phosphorus pentachloride, phosphorus trichloride, phosphorus oxychloride, HEDP, tri phenyl phosphite, tri phenyl phosphate, ATMP, ..etc. The company also has a chlor-alkali plant for manufacture of caustic soda, chlorine and hydrogen. Chlorine is mainly consumed in captive for the manufacture of various agrochemicals and intermediates. UNITEDPHOS has a captive power generation plant of 53 MW capacity in Jhagadia. The subsidiaries of the company include Bio-Win Corporation, Enviro Technology, Bharuch Enviro Infrastructure, and Shroffs United Chemicals.
Financials
The company reported a marginal decline in standalone net profit for the quarter ended December 2008. During the quarter, the profit of the company declined 8.76% to Rs 64.60 million from Rs 70.80 million in the same quarter previous year. Net sales for the quarter jumped 70.15% to Rs 6,800.60 million, while total income for the quarter jumped 67.72% to Rs 7147.80 million, when compared with the prior year period. It reported earnings of Rs 0.15 a share during the quarter, registering 40.00% decline over prior year period.
