HCL Infosystems is a IT hardware and system integration company. The company has three primary segments, computer systems and related products whose operations comprise the sale of computer hardware and system integration products and providing a comprehensive range of IT services including system maintenance, facilities management etc. in different industries. The office automation and telecommunication segment addresses telecommunication products, office equipment products and related comprehensive maintenance services. Internet and related services segment provides virtual private network, internet access services, other connectivity services and related hardware. HCL Infosystems caters to large enterprises, government, banking, financial services, education & research, SME, SoHo & Home.
The company launched a few products in 2005 such as HCL PC for India, priced at Rs.9990. One of the new innovative products launched in the commercial space were the 6 in 1 PC, a product that provides for six users simultaneously. The company released a secure PC for the ITES segment, a product specifically designed to reduce the incidence of data theft in an ITES environment. The company continues to bag large orders from existing clients like the State Bank of India, Canara Bank, ACC, Department of Posts, Sun Pharmaceuticals, Seimens, Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd, HDFC Standard Life Insurance etc. The initiatives on the system integration front saw the company successfully commission and hand over the internet backbone network to BSNL. Another major project executed and handed over was the school computerization project from the `department of school education`, Government of Punjab.
Financials
The company reported a steep drop in standalone net profit for the quarter ended December 2008. During the quarter, the profit of the company declined 30.28% to Rs 580 million from Rs 831.90 million in the same quarter last year. Net sales for the quarter declined 5.01% to Rs 30,971 million, while total income for the quarter dipped 5.48% to Rs 30,984.60 million, when compared with the prior year period. It posted earnings of Rs 3.39 a share during the quarter, registering 30.53% decline over previous year period.
