Formerly known as ASC Enterprises, Dish TV India (DISHTV) was launched in 2005 and got its current name with effect from March 7, 2007. It is mainly in the business of providing direct-to-home (DTH) satellite television and teleport service, including placement and active service. Under a scheme of restructuring, all distribution control system (DCS) business of Zee Entertainment Enterprise along with Siti Cable Network and New Era Entertainment Network was vested into the company.

DISHTV operates in the segments of direct to home services (DTH), trading, teleport services, subscriber management services, and transponder services. In DTH, the company engages in the uplink of satellite television signals to be received by the customer directly in the home. The company trades in electronics and other equipments. Its teleport services involve providing facility for uplink signals. In subscriber management, Dish TV India provides conditional access, customer support, and related services. The transponder services segment engages in the acquisition of transponder per DTH services and leasing to external parties.

DISHTV provides 170 channels in various packages and value-added services like movie-on-demand, gaming, sports active, news active, electronic programming guide (EPG), multilingual services, .etc. It launched various new channels to cater to viewer?s choice including regional news channels, general entertainment and online interactive gaming channels. With its new set-top box, Dish TV India provides its services on computers. It has a market share of 65% and is targeting a subscriber base of about 4.5 million by the end of 2009. Dish TV India also plans to increase channels to 400 by 2008.

Financials
The company has widened its loss for the quarter ended December 2008. During the quarter, the loss of the company rose to Rs 1,180.59 million compared with a loss of Rs 1,164.37 million in the same quarter last year. Net sales for the quarter jumped 71.98% to Rs 1,927.35 million, while total income for the quarter jumped 71.45% to Rs 1,928.88 million, when compared with the prior year period. It reported loss of Rs 2.76 a share during the quarter compared with loss of Rs 2.72 a share in previous year period.

Future Plans
Dish TV India, the Essel Group-promoted direct-to-home (DTH) service provider, is planning to infuse Rs 8.5 billion in the next three years for expanding its operations. The company is in talk with foreign institutional investors for raising funds. The company having a market share of 65%, is targeting a subscriber base of about 4.5 million by the end of 2009. The company is further planning to increase the number of channels to 400 by next year from the present 170 channels on offer, besides launching new products for the niche and premium segments.

The company is in the final stages of implementing its DTH services in cars. The DTH service in cars will provide over 125 satellite channels.
