Kerala Chemicals and Proteins (KERALACH) is engaged in the manufacture and marketing of gelatin, ossein and di calcium phosphate. Promoted jointly by the Kerala State Industrial Development Corporation, Nitta Gelatine Inc. Japan and Mitsubhishi Corporation Japan, it was incorporated in April 1975.
The company has its manufacturing units in Cochin and the Trichur district of Kerala with a total annual installed capacity of 2,000 MT gelatin, 11,000 MT di calcium phosphate, 5,500 MT ossein, 300 MT glue compound, and 3,100 MT limed ossein. These products find use in the food, pharma, photography and animal feed sectors, both in the domestic and international markets. In 2007, it incurred a capital expenditure of Rs 58 million to increase production of gelatin by 10% by adding certain balancing equipments and improving efficiency.
Approval received from the United States Food and Drug Administration (USFDA) and the European Directorate for the Quality of Medicines (EDQM) increased supplies for export and to the Indian customers who in turn export to USA and Europe. The company also caters to the export markets of Japan, Iran, Canada, Turkey, Thailand, and Singapore among others.
