Amrutanjan, a Chennai-based company known for its eponymous pain balm, is more than 110 years old. The company is engaged in manufacturing and marketing of ayurvedic and allophatic products. The flagship product of the company is Amrutanjan pain balm. Amrutanjan has product offerings in the sectors of health care, food and medical care.
Its health care products include variety of pain balms marketed under the brand name of Amrutanjan, other products include Dragon Liquid Balm, Cold Snap and Cold Rub. Its food products include throat lozenges and digestive candies marketed under the brand name of Tingle and Balle. Its medical products include Diakyur - a health booster, Mridul -a herbal cough syrup and Agni --energizer capsules for men.
The company has two health care products manufacturing units, one at Chennai and and the other at Hyderabad. It also has a fine chemicals division at Egattur village, dist. Kancheepuram in Tamil Nadu.
The company has a established distribution network comprising of around 350,000 retailers and 1,750 stockists across India. It is also into exports to the Middle East, Africa and neighboring countries.

The company for the quarter ended Sep. 2006 recorded 25% growth in net profits to Rs 28.31 million as against Rs 22.67 million during the corresponding quarter in the previous year. Sales for this period increased 10% to Rs 220.24 million as against Rs 200.33 million.
Amrutanjan for the year ended Mar. 2006 registered 10% drop in net profits to Rs 20.47 million as against Rs 22.83 million during the previous year ended Mar. 2005. Sales for this period increased 20% to Rs 802.56 million as against Rs 668.48 million. The EPS for the year ended Mar. 2006 stood at Rs 6.4.

Amrutanjan announced that it promoted a new company namely Holistic Beauty Care. The new company will have an authorised capital of Rs 1000 million. Holistic Beauty Care will initially carry on the business of Pain Relief and Wellness Spa in technical collaboration with Back to Young, Pittsburgh, U.S.A.. The foreign collaborator will be providing all the technological support for this venture.

Amrutanjan announced on Monday that the company`s name has been changed to Amrutanjan Health Care with effect from Nov. 5, 2007.
Future Plans
The company`s future plans in chemical research include venturing into collaborative research, contract research, development of new technology platforms for advanced intermediates and fine chemicals.
In its herbal business, the company intends to produce phytochemicals (APIs from medicinal plants)putting in place a cGMP compliant plant and diversifying its OTC products.
